How to Launch Your Career Coaching Business Your Way!

When I started my career coaching business twenty-five years ago, I got a lot of advice. Don’t invest in a logo, don’t worry about a website, and most of all, don’t rent an office. Without much hesitation, I ignored every piece of advice and did all those things.

My other choice was to throw an elaborate grand opening at my newly rented Victorian office in downtown Sacramento, CA. I was following my instincts and my passion. I wanted to celebrate the establishment of my new business. I sent out formal invitations to family, friends, colleagues, and allied businesses like outplacement firms.

To my surprise and delight, I had a huge response. It was held in the evening several weeks before Christmas. I decorated the banisters leading up to the front door with live garlands. Each room was lit with candles and the kitchen overflowed with yummy salads and desserts. There was plenty of wine and laughter. It was perfect.

My over-the-top grand opening was one of the smartest moves I made. I quickly established myself and built my network (long before the days of social media).

As I help other career coaches launch their businesses through my coaching school, I encourage them to be authentic and creative as they let others know they are open for business. Additionally, they need to accept all the good advice they receive but, in the end, do what makes their heart sing.

Here is my question for you today: what new venture in your life deserves a grand opening? I strongly encourage you to celebrate in any way that makes you happy.
